Top 10 Ways to Get Rid of Dark Circles

Dark circles can be a big annoyance for some people. Whether the cause is allergies, tiredness or just heredity, there are ways to reduce the appearance of these dark demons! Follow these simple eye skin care tricks

Step 1: KNOW YOUR ALLERGIES- It is essential to know what you are allergic to so you can eliminate that problem altogether. Be sure to check everything from a seasonal allergy, food allergy, pet allergy and anything that could possibly trigger an allergic reaction. An allergy that causes dark circles, which is commonly overlooked is gluten. Be very through when checking these over!

Step 2: GET PLENTY OF SHUT EYE- It’s common knowledge that not getting enough sleep results in those nasty dark circles under your eyes. You need to determine how much sleep your body needs and then get your body into a routine! The normal body needs between 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Keep in mind that alcohol and drugs negatively affect your sleeping patterns!

Step 3: USE FACIAL PRODUCTS BEFORE BED- There are tons of great night facial creams and masks out there. They can help reduce the appearance of discoloration and puffiness. You can find recipes to make your own face mask! Another trick for your skin before you go to bed is to take a washcloth and wet it with cold water. Squeeze all excess water out and place it over your eyes while you sleep.

Step 4: CUCUMBERS, TEA BAGS AND ICE CUBES-Any one of these items can help reduce the appearance of swelling and puffiness. Tea bags have tannin and this ingredient helps reduce discoloration and swelling. Cucumber slices are used to diminish puffiness and help to make your eyes look refreshed. Try doing either of these treatments in the morning and be sure to lie down. Make sure the caffeinated tea bags are damp and the cucumber slices cool. Usually 10-15 minutes will do the trick!

Step 5: FROZEN Q-TIP- Try wetting a cotton swap and then placing it in the freezer. Once frozen, take it out and gently wipe it under your eyes where the dark circles are appearing. This technique helps to relax your eyes and the surrounding skin. When using the cotton swab, close your eyes and try not to flinch.

Step 6: GET EYE CREAM WITH RETINOL AND VITAMIN K- There are an abundance of eye creams out there. When selecting your skin care product, be sure the ingredients “retinol” and “vitamin K” are in there! These 2 ingredients have been proven to reduce discoloration and puffy eyes. The best results come from long-term daily use. Find the best eye creams for you.

Step 7: STOP THAT EYE RUBBING- Allergies are a common reason for eye rubbing. When you rub your eyes, it irritates the skin and can lead to broken capillaries. This causes both puffy eyes and discoloration. Next time you start to rub your eyes, STOP in your tracks!

Step 8: EAT A WELL-BALANCED MEAL AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER- If you aren’t eating the right foods, then you aren’t getting the proper vitamins and minerals your body needs! Be sure to include a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially cabbage, spinach and other green, leafy vegetables. If you aren’t the vegetable type, you can supplement a vitamin in order to get the necessary nutrition. Drinking water helps to improve circulation!

Step 9: CUT OUT THE SALT-Excess salt can cause your body to keep water in unusual places, including under your eyes! This results in puffy eyes. Too much salt can also impede your circulation, which causes your blood vessels under your skin to appear bluer. Moral of the story, cut back on the salt!

Step 10: NO SMOKING- Not only does smoking threaten your life, it causes vascular problems that make your blood vessels appear more prominent. Like excess salt, they make your veins look bluer!

Anti-Aging Skin Care for Your 20s

If you’re in your mid to late 20s and starting to see the first faint lines around your eyes, don’t panic. This is normal. Your 20s isn’t time to panic; it’s time to prevent. Getting a few light eye wrinkles and fine lines on your forehead is not uncommon in your mid to late 20s. However, this is the best time to develop good skin care habits to stave off premature wrinkles. In your 20s, you lay the groundwork for what your skin will look like in the future.

So what can you do? The single most important thing you can do now to prevent premature eye wrinkles is wear sunscreen of spf 15 or higher every day. I promise you that prolonged sun exposure without wearing sunscreen will come back to haunt you later in life in the form of wrinkles, rough texture and dark splotches. If you’ve already had significant sun exposure - say, if you were a teen tanning salon junkie who couldn’t imagine life past graduation - there’s still hope. Research has shown that wearing sunscreen now can allow the skin to heal some of the damage that has already been done.

Another thing you can do is to look for skin care products and eye wrinkle creams that contain antioxidants. These wrinkle fighting ingredients can help prevent damage caused by the stress, the sun and pollution. Antioxidants to look for include retinoids/retinal (vitamin A), ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and tocopherol (vitamin E).

I think some of the best products for this age group is the Neutrogena Antioxidant Age Reverse line. It hydrates, repairs and protects at the same time.

Use Neutrogena AntiOxidant Age Reverse Day Lotion SPF 20 during the day to protect and prevent, and Neutrogena AntiOxidant Age Reverse Night Cream at night to speed up the skin’s healing process.

For your eye area, try using Neutrogena Ageless Restoratives Energy Renewal Eye Cream twice a day before you apply your day or night moisturizer.

Sleeping Positions to Prevent Eye Wrinkles

I’ve always been a side-sleeper. Lately I’ve noticed that as I’ve gotten older, my eye wrinkles are more pronounced when I first wake up in the morning. They gradually lighten a bit after I shower and prepare for my day, but I’m beginning to see that the years of sleeping on my side are etching lines into my face. Yikes!

According to the American Academy of Dermatology and WebMD, I’m not alone. The AAD cautions that sleeping in the same position every night can lead to the formation of “sleep lines,” which are lines that become etched into your skin’s surface while you sleep and don’t disappear once you’re awake.

Think about it. You know that making repetitive facial movements, like squinting and smiling, can eventually create eye wrinkles and crows feet. These sleep lines are formed the same way. When you sleep on your stomach, the skin on your forehead often gets bunched up, which can lead to forehead creases. Sleeping on your side can cause your cheeks to scrunch up toward your eyes, forming wrinkles under and around the eyes.

So what can we do? Besides investing in a good anti eye wrinkle cream, the AAD suggests sleeping on your back to reduce eye wrinkle formation. If you’re like me and tend to switch positions often while sleeping, try putting pillows on either side of you to act as bumpers. These pillows will help prop you up and keep you on your back the whole night.

Best wishes for sweet dreams and a wrinkle-free morning!

Summer Eye Skin Care

In addition to wearing sunscreen and drinking plenty of water, one of the best things you can do for your skin in the summertime is to ease up on the rich moisturizers and thick eye wrinkle creams during the day. While you want your skin to stay hydrated, during the summer your skin doesn’t need the same level of moisture as needed in the winter months.

Slathering on the eye wrinkle cream and moisturizer can build a barrier on the skin and actually prevent moisture from being absorbed. It can also trap skin cells, creating a duller complexion. So, thicker does not always mean better. In fact, some of the best eye wrinkle creams are light-weight. Plus, eye wrinkle creams that are too rich for your skin type can prevent skin cells from properly sloughing off, which can form milia, or small cysts, around the eye area.

An example of an effective light-weight eye wrinkle cream is La Roche-Posay Redermic Eyes. It’s actually a gel but moisturizes like a cream, without creating the thick barrier on your skin. It contains vitamin C to repair and protect the skin, and vitamin E and hyaluronic acid to moisturize.

Of course, you know your skin best. If you have dry skin, go ahead and apply a layer of moisturizer, let it soak in, and then apply a second layer if your skin still feels dry. It is good, however, to wear a slightly thicker moisturizer at night when skin cells rejuvenate a little faster.

Causes and Treatment of Milia Under Eyes

Have you ever had little white bumps under or around your eyes?  These are called milia, and they are tiny cysts formed by blocked oil glands.  This can be caused by using thick, oil-based creams and cosmetics, such as creamy eye shadows, heavy eye wrinkle cream or under eye concealer, that prevent skin cells from sloughing off naturally.  Another cause is excessive sun exposure, which damages the skin and also prevents natural skin cell turnover.

If you are prone to getting milia under or around your eyes, try using an eye wrinkle cream that is lighter.  A gel or a serum may be a better option for you.  Also, gently exfoliate the affected area a couple times a week to encourage cell regeneration.  You can also prevent milia by choosing a lightweight eye wrinkle cream that contains sunscreen and retinoids.

If you have milia under your eyes, you have a few treatment options.  First, discontinue your current eye cream, which is probably the culprit.  If the milia are large and detracting from your appearance, make an appointment with a dermatologist to have them removed.  Do not try to remove them yourself.  If they are small, use a topical retinol cream such as Retin-A to help exfoliate the skin, and avoid using any heavy creams around the eye area.  If they don’t go away, consult a dermatologist or an aesthetician that is experienced in eye skin care.

How to Reduce Puffy Eyes from Allergies

I live in one of the worst places for allergies, and lately I’ve seen many people - myself included! - with red, puffy eyes and inflamed under eye bags.  If you also suffer from allergies, don’t give in to the temptation to rub those itchy eyes!  First, consult your physician on the best way to relieve the irritation.  The skin around your eyes is the thinnest, most delicate on your face, and rubbing or stretching this skin will break down the skin’s collagen and elastin, leading to premature eye wrinkles and sagging.  Then, click on the video below to learn how to reduce those puffy eyes.

How to reduce puffy eyes

The only thing I recommend doing differently is to use your ring finger, rather than your middle finger, to blend in eye wrinkle cream.  Your ring finger is a weaker digit, so you will put less pressure on that delicate under eye skin.

The eye pads referred to in this video are Shiseido Benefiance Pure Retinol Instant Treatment Eye Mask pads.  The ginseng extract in these pads helps tighten the skin and reduce puffiness, and the retinol, a vitamin A derivative, helps to smooth eye wrinkles.  They’re also great for lightening dark circles, another common symptom of allergies.

Beat Eye Wrinkles with these Proven Strategies

The search for the best eye creams that will eliminate dark circles, eye wrinkles or puffy eyes is, frankly, overwhelming. Most eye skin care product lines say they have the most fantastic ingredient to rid aging issues for good. I know it’s easy to listen and follow every claim to find your eye cream, but common sense leaves us to believe the truth is altered quite a bit in order to sway us.

There is a “best eye cream” out there for you.  You can’t find the best eye cream by the powers of persuasion of the local beauty clerk or local newspaper ads.

The best eye wrinkle cream for you is on the Internet.  Somewhere in that vast World Wide Web, your best eye cream is out there just waiting to be delivered to your front door.

Here’s my Three-Step Formula for finding the best eye cream:

1. What’s your eye skin care issue? Are eye wrinkles bothering you? Under eye dark circles? Under eye bags?  A Combination of one or more? Make sure you’re honest with yourself about the number 1 issue concerning your eyes is.

2. What is your price range? Don’t consider buying that eye cream if you don’t have the budget, simply move on?  Be realistic about your budget and stick to it throughout your search.

3. What Ingredients Peak Your Interest? Every day, there seems to be an announcement of a new breakthrough ingredient to combat some of these eye skin care problems.  Which ingredient do you consider a ‘deal breaker’ if it’s not included in the eye cream you select? Vitamin K? Antioxidants? Emu Oils? All Organic?

When you’ve answered all these, you can then start looking on the Web.  At this point, your list should be getting smaller.  Online stores such as The Best Eye Creams Store will carry a much larger selection than what you will find in your average department or drug store, so your odds of finding the perfect eye cream for you are much improved.

Make your purchase (and be sure to go for the Free Shipping option, where available), then give that eye cream time to do its job … at least 1 or 2 months.Only now will you be able to decide if the cream is the best one for your needs.

Soothe Tired Eyes with NeoStrata Skin Care Products

Do you have a hard time relaxing before you go to bed?  Many people, myself included, find it difficult to wind down after a long day, and they often have trouble falling asleep quickly.  Getting enough sleep is important not only to your overall health, but it also helps to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful.

I’ve recently come across a great eye product from the NeoStrata skin care line that helps you relax before bedtime and also reduces eye wrinkles:
NeoStrata Exuviance Intensive Eye Treatment Pads
contain vitamin A to smooth and diminish eye wrinkles, vitamin E to hydrate and heal, and vitamin C to brighten and tighten the skin.

NeoStrata Exuviance Intensive Eye Treatment Pads

After washing your face, place one pad under or around each eye.  Leave the pad in place for 10 to 30 minutes, and simply relax.  I like to read a book and enjoy a cup of caffeine-free tea while I wait.  When the time is up, gently remove and discard the eye pads, then lightly rub the remaining solution in to the skin.

The NeoStrata skin care line also makes a very effective eye wrinkle cream.
NeoStrata Eye Cream
is a super hydrating cream that contains vitamin E, panthenol, gluconolactone and green tea leaf extract to moisturize the skin, improve skin tone and firmness.

NeoStrata Eye Cream

This NeoStrata cream can be applied during the day under eye makeup and again at night.

Both the NeoStrata cream and the eye pads are great for soothing and hydrating tired eyes.  So, if stress and lack of sleep are making your eyes look older than they are, treat yourself to one of these relaxing eye products.  Sweet dreams!
