The Los Angeles Times published a recent article in which 25 skin care experts were polled to determined what new ingredients would revolutionize the anti aging industry in 2009. Their responses revealed seven powerful new anti aging ingredients. One of these seven is argan oil, which is generating buzz as an effective eye wrinkle reducer that helps maintain youthful skin.
Often called the “Gold of Morocco,” argan oil comes from the fruit of the argan tree, which is indigenous to southwestern Morocco. It is considered one of the rarest oils in the world due to the limited supply and small growing area. Argan oil has been used by the Berber women of Morocco for centuries and is still a major source of economic support for the area.
After the pits are removed from the fruit, they are broken open, and the inside kernels are put through a cold-press process. This cold-press allows the extracted oil to retain all of the nutrients. Some of the kernels are roasted first in order to produce edible culinary oil, and the raw oil from un-roasted kernels is used for cosmetic purposes.
Cosmetic argan oil is making a significant impact in the anti aging industry. It is one of the richest sources of tocopherol, or vitamin E, which seals moisture in the skin, reduces inflammation and protects against the free radical damage that causes eye wrinkles and other signs of aging. It’s also packed with essential fatty acids, oleic and linoleic acids, which hydrate the skin, improve elasticity and maintain the skin’s resilience.
In addition to its anti aging benefits, cosmetic argan oil is also an effective treatment for psoriasis, eczema and acne because it prevents moisture loss, decreases inflammation and regulates the skin’s oil production.
I’ve heard great things about argan oil helping people look younger, but I’m always looking for first-hand feedback. If you’ve used argan oil to reduce your eye wrinkles, please share your experience with us!
