How to Fake a Good Nights Sleep: Part 1

According to the National Institute of Health, 70 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders. If you’re one of these people, a new mom or just a busy person in general, you know what it’s like to lose sleep. It’s not always a pretty picture in the morning - accentuated eye wrinkles, red, puffy eyes, dark circles and a dull, lifeless complexion. So, if you truly can’t get the recommended 8 hours of sleep, how can you alleviate these symptoms of sleeplessness? Fake it!

Allure Magazine and The Today Show shared the following tips to faking a good nights sleep:

- When you wake up, do 10 or more jumping jacks to get your body moving. This also helps to move the fluid that has retained around your eyes during the night causing puffy eyes and under eye bags.

- Take a cold shower or place your face in a bowl of ice cold water. It will help stimulate the body and wake you up.  Also, try using peppermint body wash.  (I don’t know about you, but the idea of taking a cold shower would keep me in bed all day. Talk about unpleasant!  If you’re like me and this tip is just too horrific to endure in the morning, take a shower that is at least a few degrees cooler than your normal shower.)

- Use an exfoliating scrub to remove dead skin cells and brighten your complexion. (With regular use, this also helps reduce the appearance of eye wrinkles.)

- Apply a moisturizer that has little bit of self tanner in it, such as Olay Touch of Sun.

Olay Complete Touch Of Sun Daily Uv Facial Moisturizer Plus A Touch Of Sunless Tanner 2.5oz

From personal experience, this Olay moisturizer is awesome. Not only does it have moisturizing vitamin E and protecting spf 15, but it really does give just a “touch” of a tan look that can be built up over multiple uses. On a side note, I also highly recommend Olay eye wrinkle products. I especially like the Olay ProX Anti Aging Starter Protocol, which contains Age Repair Lotion SPF 30, Eye Restoration Complex and Wrinkle Smoothing Cream.

Check back next week for more tips on faking a good nights sleep, including how to dramatically reduce eye puffiness and use makeup to make eyes look more awake.  Until then, sweet dreams!

How to Get A Tan Without Getting Eye Wrinkles

It’s getting to be that time of year again - vacation time!  If you’re headed to the beach, you probably don’t want to stick out by being the palest person there.  Rather than your pasty skin announcing that it’s your first day of vacation, you can look like you’ve been at the beach for weeks already.

No, I’m not talking about tanning beds.  Tanning is actually the leading cause of premature wrinkles.  Avoid the eye wrinkles and sun damage by applying sunless self tanner instead.  There are many different effective brands of self tanner for your body that you can buy at local drugstores.  My favorite is Neutrogena.  However, you shouldn’t use the same self tanner on your face as you do on the rest of your body.  Self tanners for the body are not formulated for use on the face and can clog pores.  Instead, get a self tanner that is specifically for the face.

The best self tanner for face that I’ve found is called Fake Bake Anti-Aging Facial Self Tanner.  In addition to being lightweight and streak-free, it contains powerful eye wrinkle fighters such as moisturizing tocopherol (vitamin E) and Matrixyl (palmitoyl pentapeptide), which is also found in highly effective anti aging and eye wrinkle creams such as StriVectin and Olay eye products.

Fake Bake Anti-Aging Facial Self Tanner

To apply the face tanner, first wash your face thoroughly and use an exfoliating scrub to remove any dead skin.  Once your face is dry, squeeze about a quarter size of the self tanner into your hands.  Starting at your cheekbones, thoroughly rub the self tanner all over your face.  It’s important to get a thin layer of self tanner evenly distributed all over your face.  To create an authentic sun-kissed look, you can apply a thin second layer to just your cheekbones and top of your nose, where the sun hits your face the most.  Next, thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.  Pay particular attention to scrubbing your knuckles and between your fingers, where the self tanner tends to collect.

Once the self tanner is dry, apply your eye wrinkle cream and sunscreen with spf 15 or higher.  You’re on your way to being a bronzed - and wrinkle-free - beach beauty!

Breaking Eye Wrinkles News: FDA Approves At-Home Eye Wrinkles Laser

The FDA has just approved an at-home laser device for removing eye wrinkles.

On Friday, June 5, 2009, the FDA gave Palomar Medical Technologies, Inc. approval to market this eye wrinkles laser system over the counter directly to consumers.  Palomar, which researches and develops light-based cosmetic treatment systems, developed the laser device in conjunction with Johnson and Johnson Consumer Companies.

Joseph Caruso, CEO of Palomar, describes the eye wrinkles laser as a major breakthrough.  “The professional treatment of fine lines and wrinkles using lasers has been well established and proven to be safe and effective for years in the doctors’ office using large and expensive lasers,” Caruso says.  “With this breakthrough, consumers will be able to use similar technology in the privacy of their own home for a fraction of the cost.”

Dr. Marc Siegel, a practicing Internist and Associate Professor at the NYU School of Medicine, appeared on Fox News to discuss this new laser.  He says that it’s a high-intensity laser light that you point at your eye wrinkles, and it actually destroys part of the skin tissue while leaving the elastic tissue.  However, he states that “It doesn’t work that well.  It is safe, and the FDA is probably right letting it go over the counter.”  He also says that it’s “very expensive” at about $500, and it only reduces the appearance of “very tiny wrinkles.”  Dr. Siegal says that you have to use it “2 or 3 times a day for 20 or 30 minutes over a long period of time in order to get it to work.”

He believes that the most effective eye wrinkle treatments can be found at the dermatologist office.  Dermatologists use a more powerful laser called a fractionated CO2 laser, which uses carbon dioxide to get rid of wrinkles and works very well.  Dr. Seigel also stated, “If you want to keep eye wrinkles away, use sunscreen, get plenty of sleep, exercise and don’t smoke.”

No word yet on when and where this eye wrinkles laser will be available for purchase.
