Beauty Goes Green With Organic Skin Care Products

Recently, the use of natural ingredients has become more and more popular in many industries. In the mainstream medical world, organic remedies are quickly gaining in popularity. Some are touted as remedies for certain illnesses. Organic ingredients are used widely in the field of dermatology to treat various skin conditions. In fact, every year, manufacturers all over the world release dozens of organic skin care products into the market and eye skin care is no exception. Organic ingredients are now being used in more and more products designed to minimize or erase dark circles.

Fruits and Vegetables: Popular Organic Skin Care Ingredients

Fruits and vegetables are the most commonly used organic ingredients. This is due partly to their wide availability and partly because they contain many potent ingredients that are very effective in causing positive changes to the human skin. Some fruits used in natural skin care are plum, papaya and mango.

There are as many benefits to organic ingredients in skin care as there are skin care products themselves. To make the right choices in organic skin care, determine what benefits you want. A lot of manufacturers now include organic ingredients to their skin care lines, but you can also use these fruits and vegetables as is. Make sure to always use the freshest ingredients you can find.

Additional Organic Skin Care Ingredients: Milk, Oatmeal, Wheat Germ

There are also several organic items you can use for your skin besides fruits and vegetables. Milk is one of the first things that come to mind. According to many beauty experts, milk is effective in retaining the youthfulness of the skin, making it a popular ingredient in many eye wrinkle creams.

Another common food used in skin care is oatmeal. Honey or milk added to ground oatmeal makes a great face masque for irritated skin. Oiliness can be reduced and a nice youthful glow will appear.

Many organic skin care products include wheat germ as an active ingredients. This substance is one of the best organic elements when it comes to moisturizing and exfoliating skin. Wheat germ contains high levels of vitamin E which is essential in maintaining a healthy condition of the skin as well as the hair.

There Is A Natural Ingredient For Every Skin Type

Other excellent moisturizers and exfoliants are yogurt and sour cream. You can either find products that contain these ingredients, or use them on their own. Dry skin symptoms can be addressed with honey as a facial mask. Combined with wheat germ, it’s a wonderful system for getting a smooth, youthful complexion.

Many natural ingredients are used in skin toners including lavender and rose waters. Rose water is believed to tone the delicate tissue around the eye and can positively affect any under eye bags. Organic skin care treatments are many times comprised of a combination of two or more different natural ingredients.

Organic skin care methods are extremely popular today. Many people are opting for these natural treatments over conventional products. There is no question that organic skin care products will be on the market for a very long time.

New Eye Wrinkle Cream Ingredient: Carnosine

In addition to argan oil (see Feb. 13 post), one of the revolutionary new anti aging ingredients listed in the Los Angeles Times is carnosine.

Carnosine, or L carnosine, is an amino acid found naturally in the body.  Scientists have discovered that carnosine acts as a powerful antioxidant with anti aging benefits, and it’s now being used as an ingredient in eye wrinkle cream and other anti aging products.

In the recent Los Angeles Times article, Dermatologist Dr. Naila Malik states that “carnosine is the only agent that addresses all three processes leading to aging - oxidation, inflammation and glycation.”  Glycation, which occurs when sugar binds to proteins such as collagen, works with oxidation to create free radicals that damage skin cells, proteins and DNA.  These free radicals eventually impair and deteriorate collagen and cause inflammation in the skin.  The combination of these three processes leads to the formation of eye wrinkles, puffiness and other signs of aging.

Studies have shown that carnosine can slow the glycation process, and in turn, prolong the life span of skin cells.  By doing so, it is also decreasing the creation of free radicals that cause eye wrinkles.  Therefore, eye wrinkle cream that contains carnosine will boost the defense mechanisms that protect against damaging free radicals, slowing the aging process and reducing the appearance of eye wrinkles.  One such anti aging product is Shiseido Benefiance NutriPerfect Night Cream Pro-Fortifying Carnosine DP.

How to Fight Facial Wrinkles

What causes facial wrinkles? Of course the #1 culprit behind fine lines and eye wrinkles is the sun and its skin damaging UV rays. Other contributing factors come naturally with age as our bodies produce less elastin and collagen. In addition, we undergo cumulative stress and hormonal changes. It gets more difficult to hydrate ourselves and free radicals damage the outermost layers of skin. Skin tightening and deep wrinkles can get us down, but the good news is that we don’t have to wield a celebrity income to take years off our looks. There are many anti wrinkle creams and procedures to combat an aging wrinkle or two.

The first thing to try is one of the many creams on the market. Facial wrinkles can generally be fought by triggering the body’s natural rejuvenating, cleansing and exfoliating processes. Anti wrinkle creams traditionally contain Vitamin A, B, C, E and coenzyme Q10. Creams targeting wrinkles include: Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Anti Wrinkle Cream, Retinol-A or L’Oreal’s Line Eraser. Alpha Hydroxy Acids are good for people who may be sensitive to strong ingredients in Retinol. Peptide products like
StriVectin
, Olay’s Regenerist Serum or Estée Lauder’s Perfectionist may be more suitable for sensitive skin.

For more persistent wrinkles and telltale signs of aging, there are collagen fillers done via injection. This relatively inexpensive procedure will cost an average of $300, but generally needs to be redone two or three times per year to maintain maximum efficiency. In some cases, the collagen stimulates the body’s natural processes and less maintenance is required. Doctors use either bovine-based or human-based collagen that has undergone a purification process. The anesthesia Lidocaine is mixed in with the collagen so patients don’t feel a thing. After 30 to 60 minutes, the procedure is done and the patient is free to go. Results show up once the swelling goes down. Cosmetic surgery is not covered under most health insurance plans, but most surgeons offer financing plans for any budget. Compared to Botox injections, collagen is more flexible and is said to be much more natural looking.

Each year, Americans purchase over $6.4 billion worth of “cosmeceuticals” and creams targeting facial wrinkles. Whether prescribed or purchased over-the-counter, this non-invasive option appeals to many consumers who’d rather not be bothered with medical procedures. In addition to anti wrinkle creams and injections, cryotherapy, or freezing, and microdermabrasion treatments, which involves scraping off the top layer of the skin, may be performed. After any process, though, it is important to stock up on sunscreen and avoid further skin damage from the sun.

Argan Oil: The Anti Eye Wrinkle “Gold” Standard

The Los Angeles Times published a recent article in which 25 skin care experts were polled to determined what new ingredients would revolutionize the anti aging industry in 2009.  Their responses revealed seven powerful new anti aging ingredients.  One of these seven is argan oil, which is generating buzz as an effective eye wrinkle reducer that helps maintain youthful skin.

Argan oil

Often called the “Gold of Morocco,” argan oil comes from the fruit of the argan tree, which is indigenous to southwestern Morocco.  It is considered one of the rarest oils in the world due to the limited supply and small growing area.  Argan oil has been used by the Berber women of Morocco for centuries and is still a major source of economic support for the area.

After the pits are removed from the fruit, they are broken open, and the inside kernels are put through a cold-press process.  This cold-press allows the extracted oil to retain all of the nutrients.  Some of the kernels are roasted first in order to produce edible culinary oil, and the raw oil from un-roasted kernels is used for cosmetic purposes.

Cosmetic argan oil is making a significant impact in the anti aging industry.  It is one of the richest sources of tocopherol, or vitamin E, which seals moisture in the skin, reduces inflammation and protects against the free radical damage that causes eye wrinkles and other signs of aging.  It’s also packed with essential fatty acids, oleic and linoleic acids, which hydrate the skin, improve elasticity and maintain the skin’s resilience.

In addition to its anti aging benefits, cosmetic argan oil is also an effective treatment for psoriasis, eczema and acne because it prevents moisture loss, decreases inflammation and regulates the skin’s oil production.

I’ve heard great things about argan oil helping people look younger, but I’m always looking for first-hand feedback.  If you’ve used argan oil to reduce your eye wrinkles, please share your experience with us!

Product Review: Oil of Olay Regenerist

A dermatologist was featured on my local news this morning talking about affordable anti aging skin care, and one of the product lines she recommended was Oil of Olay Regenerist.  This line contains cleansers, day and night moisturizers, anti eye wrinkle cream, exfoliating scrubs, microdermabrasion kits and more, all with the purpose of reducing wrinkles and making the skin appear younger.  I’ve tried a few of the products in the Regenerist line, so I thought I’d share my results with you.

The Oil of Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Moisturizing Treatment contains an amino-peptide complex to regenerate skin cells and promises the look of a mini-lift in the morning.  I found that this night cream is better suited for someone with normal or combination skin, because I have very dry skin and it did not provide the level of moisture I need at night.

I also used the Regenerist Touch of Sun moisturizer during the day and was very pleased with my results.  What I like best about it is that it contains UVA/UVB sunscreen (spf 15) and sunless tanner, so I can have a natural-looking sun-kissed glow without the skin damage and eye wrinkles that come with excessive sun exposure.  Regenerist Touch of Sun could have provided more moisture, but its lightweight, non-greasy formula worked great under makeup.

My favorite product from this line is the Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum.  This Olay eye wrinkle cream contains antioxidants vitamin E and green tea, which reduce eye puffiness and inflammation and fight the free radicals that cause eye wrinkles, as well as the amino-peptides that are unique to the Regenerist product line.  Dab a little around the eyes in the morning and evening after washing your face, and you should see visible firming and lifting in the eye area.

Oil of Olay Regenerist

Certain Oil of Olay Regenerist products may be better suited for different skin types; but overall, I believe that the Regenerist line is effective and affordable, and I recommend trying the Regenerist eye wrinkle cream for younger-looking eyes.

Catherine Zeta-Jones’s Eye Wrinkle Treatment: Honey and Salt

In a recent interview, Catherine Zeta-Jones says that she rubs a mixture of honey and salt on her face to moisturize and exfoliate her skin and prevent eye wrinkles.  It must be working because her skin looks amazingly youthful, especially for being 39!

Honey is a great natural anti aging product.  It’s packed with antioxidants, which help fight free radicals that cause signs of aging.  It’s also a humectant, which binds moisture to the skin without becoming oily, making skin softer and more youthful-looking.  Honey also has antibacterial properties, so it helps to cleanse your skin as well.

Exfoliating your skin removes the skin’s outer layer, stimulating the skin cell regeneration process.  If you try this honey salt rub at home, I recommend using Dead Sea Salts.  Not only are they are great exfoliates, but they contain minerals, such as potassium and magnesium, that have detoxifying and healing properties.

To make the scrub, use a couple tablespoons of honey and mix in enough salt to create a gritty paste.  Scrub onto your face in circular motions for about thirty seconds, and then rinse with warm - not hot - water.  Once your face is dry, apply your regular anti eye wrinkle cream and moisturizer, and enjoy your radiant complexion!

Product Review: Cellex C Advanced C Eye Toning Gel

Vitamin C is one of the most effective and scientifically proven anti aging ingredients.  Therefore, any anti eye wrinkle product that contains a high concentration of this powerful antioxidant has a pretty good chance of successfully reducing eye wrinkles, puffy eyes, dark circles- you name it.

One such product is CellexC Advanced C Eye Toning Gel.

CellexC Advanced C Eye Toning Gel

According to the Cellex C official website, this eye gel “contains 10% vitamin C in a scientifically formulated combination of hydrolized and free-form L-ascorbic acid-the only form of vitamin C that the body can recognize and utilize to promote collagen production.”  As we age, we lose collagen, leading to sagging skin and eye wrinkles.  Products that stimulate the production of collagen gradually increase the skin’s elasticity and firmness.  As an antioxidant, vitamin C also protects against the free radicals that cause eye wrinkles and other signs of aging.  Cellex C Advanced C Eye Toning Gel also contains resveratrol, which protects collagen and is found in grapes and red wine.  Resveratrol is the subject of on-going scientific studies as an anti aging breakthrough due to its sirtuin-activating properties.
Cellex C Advanced Eye Toning Gel can be used by both men and women, and it’s specifically formulated for the under eye area to diminish the appearance of under eye wrinkles and crows feet.  Because it is designed to improve the skin’s color and correct redness and age spots, it should not be used on the upper eye lids or eyebrows, as it can cause hair discoloration.

Have you tried any Cellex C eye products?
